Roy F. Santos

Family Tribute:

RUFINO CONRADO F. SANTOS III
“Roy”

Part of the crème of the crop … an Industrial Management Engineering graduate of a prestigious university in Manila, a Systems Analyst of then Andersen Consulting in Vancouver, and most recently, a Computer Consultant of Accenture in midtown Manhattan...

With optimism, enthusiasm, and zest for life, Roy opted to move to New York in 1996. Loved his work, his apartment, made lots of friends, and enjoyed every bit of parties, Broadway shows, and the glitter that made New York, New York!

A thoughtful soul, Roy would regularly keep in touch with his family to share his excitement at seeing a movie star or having an office-sponsored dinner cruise! A generous person, happy and fun-loving host, Roy always treated his visitors to a memorable stay at the Big Apple.

That fateful day, while completing his project at the 94th floor of the World Trade Center’s Tower 1, ROY SANTOS was, in turn, chosen to be an indelible part of New York...

As we remember what happened ten years ago, the Lord gave a desire in my heart to search for information on Roy. I worked with his mother, Aurora, at the University of the East many years ago and I remember her family, including her two sons, one of them, Roy. I pray for peace for his loved ones -- he is physically absent from them but he is now in the presence of the Lord.

I was in disbelief when I learned from my Aunt Aurora that Roy was at the Twin Towers on Sept.11,2001. His brother Rico told me that Roy was just visiting a client. During that time, I couldn't control my emotions because everyone was speculating what had happened to Roy. When my cousin Alana informed us that she saw Roy in her dreams, telling her that the wing of the plane had hit him that we finally began to accept Roy's fate to be finally reunited with our Creator. Thank you for touching our lives,Roy. We miss you!

I knew Roy from high school. I remember him to be an intelligent, generous and friendly person. I lost contact with him as we went to different universities. I was surfing the internet when I stumbled on this site. It was with great surprise and sadness that I learned of his demise almost 10 years ago in that horrific day in September. I lived in New York at the time. I was was just stepping out of the Wall Street subway station on my way to work when I heard a loud bang. When I looked up I saw the World Trade Center burning. Little did I know that Roy was in it. I am sure that like me, he is and will always be remembered by his family and friends whom he touched while he was with us. He will always be in our prayers,

I never knew Roy- yet i call myself friend, strangely enough. My son was in the 3rd grade on 9/11. When news hit of the attack- the school did as any Catholic school would, it filed down to the Church and had Mass for the victims, the families, the Country and- yes, even the enemies themselves. Later that week, each student was given a slip of construction paper on which to write a name- and my son got Roy Santos III. A strip of bright yellow- w/alternating crayon colours spelling out his name- the yellow crayon blending into paper. This slip has represented a person lost in a senseless act of Terror for over five years- and only now do i feel the sufficient amount of energy it takes to see our loss face-to-face. It hurts. I knew it would. My son is graduating from the 8th grade on Friday-- and i want him to see who we have remembered and prayed for all these years. I will always keep this small strip of yellow paper on my bathroom mirror- the 1st thing i notice after my own face int he mirror. I never met him, yet- will never forget him.

I worked with Roy at Andersen Consulting in Vancouver for a number of years. I always remember Roy as having a big smile and laughing a lot... a very happy person. I am saddened by his loss. Although it is 2 years later after 911 I still remember.
