After Glow

I’d like the memory of meto be a happy one.I’d like to leave an afterglowof smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echowhispering softly down the waysOf happy times and laughing timesand bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve,to dry before the sunOf happy memories that I leaveWhen life is done.

Today my daughter (13 years old) ran her first cross country meet wearing your name on her bib. It was an honor for her to wear that and remember you and all those who lost their lives today, twenty years ago. Rest In Peace

Dear Family of Chapelle Sarker, I worked with Chapelle on the 97th floor a couple of years earlier when she was tasked with prepping laptop carts for remote trainings. I was her helper in a small windowless room that we decorated with cool postcards and office supplies to make it a little more colorful and cozy. Chapelle and I bonded over our love of the theatre as I had just finished my graduate degree. I would go away for an engagement out of town and then return to Marsh and McClennan. (I think Chapelle may have requested me to come back again!) We each made a work friend, I believe. I always felt a little out of place in offices and maybe Chapelle sensed that. At any rate, she was the most animated person I knew in the company at that time, and we got on well. I was back temping on the 99th floor for a group of claims lawyers in 2001. I saw Chapelle a few times in the hallways or in the elevator lobby. I remember popping down to visit her once or twice. She was always in between things, very engaged and busy. On 9-11-2001, I had a doctor's appointment and missed coming into work that day. I think about Chapelle on this day esp. every year. I would like you, as her loved ones, to know that - that others including her family, carry her spirit with us into our days and into our lives. Blessings on you all on this 20th Anniversary. Truly, ~Christina Apathy christina.apathy@gmail.com

Chapelle, I have not missed any memorial since your life was tragically stolen. Even though I did not meet you personally, Robyn Terry; my wife of 31 years so far was a dear friend to you. I have shared many tears over the years as it hurts me to see Robyn cry every year. She always told me that you(Chapelle) and her (Robyn) were soup buddies daily as you worked together. May the most high continue to honour us with your lasting memory etched into our hearts and souls forever. Selah....

My mother (Robyn Terry) who previously commented lost a beautiful friend on September 11th. Coming to this page to see the comments she has left over the years is so heart breaking to me. I wish she was still alive so I can get to know her and see the connection that they both had. RIP she is in a better place now.

I just wanted everyone to know that I watched the tribute to the World Trade Center Victims on Monday, September 11th, 2006. When I heard Chapelle's name, I cried all over again. I now realize that I will always feel this way. It's ok because that means she is special and I will always remember her. Chapelle, rest in peace. Robyn B. Terry robynterry@hotmail.com

I worked with Chapelle at the midtown office in the late 90's. During that time, Chapelle and I often talked about transferring to the Marsh and McLennan office located in the World Trade Center. She said that she thought the park and water area were beautiful. After having my daughter, I decided to work on Long Island so I wouldn't really have to commute. Unfortunately, Chapelle transfered to the World Trade Center and tragically lost her life. I will never forget the fond memories I have of Chapelle. I pray for her family, friends and everyone who lost a loved one that day. Rest in peace, Robyn B. Terry robynterry@hotmail.com

HI CHAPELLE, I PRAY AND TRUST THAT YOU ARE IN THE FOLDS OF GOD'S ARMS. I MISS YOU AND THE LAUGHS WE SHARED ON THE PHONE. OUR LAST CONVERSATION (9/6/01) YOU SAID YOU LIKE TO RECEIVE LITTLE 'TID-BITS' WELL HERE'S ONE IN LOVING MEMORIES. 'THE SUM' BY PAUL LAWRANCE DUMBAR A LITTLE DREAMING BY THE WAY A LITTLE TOILING DAY BY DAY A LITTLE PAIN, A LITTLE STRIFE A LITTLE JOY AND THAT IS LIFE. A LITTLE SHORT LIVED SUMMER'S MORN WHEN JOY SEEMS ALL SO NEWLY BORN, WHEN ONE DAY'S SKY IS BLUE ABOVE AND ONE BIRD SINGS AND THAT IS LOVE. A LITTLE SICKENING OF THE YEARS THE TRIBUTE OF A FEW HOT TEARS TWO FOLDED HANDS, THE FAILING BREATH AND PEACE AT LAST AND THAT IS DEATH. JUST DREAMING, LOVING, DYING SO THE ACTORS IN THE DRAMA GO A FLITTING PICTURE ON THE WALL LOVE, DEATH, THE THEMES, BUT IS THAT ALL? LOVE, AUNT MARGARET

I did know Chapelle and I can honestly say that she was a wonderful person. As she was interested at the time in computer support she used to tag along with me as I resolved PC related problems I remember that she had a rather quirky sense of humor and that she loved sports. I used to call her Mademoiselle Dubois as she said that Dubois would go better with Chapelle than Sarker did.

Tragedy can separate loved ones and it can also bring them closer then ever. Ms. Dorothy Belcher, Chapelle's mom, is an inspiration to me, each and every day since meeting her. I admire her as a colleague, and cherish her as a friend. Her strength has inspired me to write the following sonnet in honor of her dearly beloved daughter, who although she is no longer physically here, her spirit along with so many others, will live on in our hearts and our dreams. 'True Character' True character is life's carpenter, building the bridges, making us who we are It's our choice to either burn them, or to preserve them and travel afar There are no particular values, that a character must possess They can spawn uncommon valor, during times of deep duress The events of times we live in, may muddy the path on which we walk We traverse it by the silence of our actions, and not the loudness of our talk To live a life of only 'our' concerns, leaves but a solitary impact When compassion serves to guide the heart, a broad inner strength it will extract Thoughtless words and actions, penetrate deep into the soul Putting others first in life, will the spirit whole There is no bounty to be found in life, if gained through a pious greed True wealth will be awaiting those who share for another's need The strongest true character in this life, comes with a heart felt price For it fears not having to anti up, an endearing sacrifice Dedicated to the American spirit reborn on 9-11-01

I never had the opportunity to personally meet Chapelle. Her Mother and are in the same choir at First Baptist Church in North Brentwood, Maryland. I was hoping to get a chance to meet Chapelle, according to her Mom, we have a few things in common. I would have to guess that Chapelle is a strong, God believing person with a good heart because that is how Dorothy (her Mother) is. May God continue to bless and provide strength to Donald Sarker and Dorothy through this difficult time.

I did not know Chapelle, but worked as a consultant with an outside company (Web Elite) that was doing work for Marsh at the World Trade Center, in 2001. I just went through the list of all the March WTC victims, and her name was the only one I knew, maybe because it is such an unusual name. I just wanted to say that I am sorry for her loss and the loss of all the others who worked at Marsh and the other companies. May you all rest in peace.

I did not know Chapelle; however, I met her mother, Dorothy, on Sunday, May 26, 2002, at a fellowship at the First Baptist Church of Marshall Heights, 4934 'B' Street, SE, Washington, DC. I cannot begin to imagine the impact of losing her daughter has had on her life, and the pain she has felt, is still feeling, and probably will always feel. I pray that God will heal her hurting heart a little more each day. Dorothy, it's important that you know that He loves you, and that others are praying for you.

Chapelle Sarker was a wonderful person to have as a friend and a co-worker. Many times we shared the frustrations of 'making sure it worked'. We had the pleasure of sharing the Centra Studio at the World Trade Center. I would be presenting a class via the Network and often times, she was sitting right behind me making sure all was technically well. I wish her family peace and send my deapest respects. Her soul is in a better place and will always live on in my heart. JAN
