Peter Moutos

If the sailboat hadn’t gotten lost, they might never have met. If the red- haired nurse hadn’t noticed his deepening sunburn and offered him sunscreen, they might not have talked so much. And if the shy man hadn’t screwed up the courage to ask for her number, the sweet daily routines of Peter and Meg Moutos would never have evolved.

'He’d say, `I love you, gorgeous woman,’ and I’d say, `I love you, handsome young man,’ and he’d go off in the morning,' Mrs. Moutos said of her husband, 44, a systems consultant at Marsh & McLennan who lived in Chatham, N.J. 'At 5 he’d call me: `How’s my gorgeous woman?’ `How’s my handsome young man?’ and tell me what time to pick him up at the train, and then we’d go to the Y together in Madison.'

They would work out, pick each other up in a bear hug to crack each other’s spine, then he would carry her gym bag as they left.

'If we had an irritable day, we wouldn’t discuss it until after we were done, because we were always in such better moods after we worked out,' she said.

They were married less than a year and a half.

I worked with Pete at Maywood in Amarillo. He all ways looked at life through positive eyes. He talked of wanting to go to New York. While sad for his loss I am happy he got to do what he wanted to do. Never forget

20 years, Peter… you are still missed and the kindness, wit and sharp intelligence you embodied is still lingering with all who had the pleasure to know you. I still remember visiting your welcoming home and the easy adoration you had for your wife, Meg. I still remember the fun you always brought to challenging time on an intense project. I still recall how you unified us without any apparent effort other than just being you. You’ll be apart of all who knew you always…

Peter, So hard to believe that you have been gone for the past twenty years. I wrote a tribute when Andrew had his Bar Mitzvah in 2006. Andrew was married this summer and Meg sat next to me at dinner. I miss you and think of you often. You will always have a special place in my heart.

Peter was always the happiest person to be around. No matter how busy he was if you needed help he would stop what he was doing and help you out. He loved to ask about my kids - but first he was asking about my dog kids and secondly about the human kids. He always made me laugh!

Peter-our days working together in the weight room at the University of Texas (1979-1980) were good times. I recall you going through Officer Candidate School one summer in Quantico and sharing both the physical and mental the challenges which you conquered. After I graduated in 1980 you were just one of many lost connections, and I sadly found you today. I'm sure you touched many lives and you will always be missed. Hookem

Dean, Peters mom was staying with us on 9-11. I took her to the ariport several times to fly to New York to see Meg. I live in a small town in New Mexico with less than a hundred people, so to be affected be 9-11 one would have never gussed. The grace and compassion that Meg showed to Dean her mother in law was genuine. I did not know Peter but I saw the love of a mother for her son. Our toughts and prayers are with you always. We Will Never Forget!

Peter, Andrew had his Bar Mitzvah this past weekend and he lit a candle in your memory and honor. You will be so happy to know that your wonderful wife, Meg, was with us on this most special occasion. It comforts us to know that you are Andrew's guardian angel. You would be so proud of your 'little man,' who is not so little anymore! I think of you often and remember all the great times we had working together on IBM and other clients. You will always be with me in my heart.

The Moutos humor will always linger in my mind; sharp, witty, and always playful. I will miss that. Sometimes, Pete would love to talk and argue with me about God. It was always a friendly argument and it was always challenging. I know God has a purpose in all things and that God never turned his back on Pete. Goodbye Pete..

Pete, I can't believe you are gone. I did not know until today. You and I started our business careers together in Amarillo and I credit you with pushing me to become more valuable to the company. I miss your 'technical quize question of the day'. I wondered why a few attempts to reach your e mail had gone unanswered and now I know. I will miss your unique wit and sense of humor. You are an original and one of the best of the best. I am sure you have been reunited with your loyal black lab Leonard and I hope you have found green fields to run in together. I pray that God has blessed you. Bob Neely Amarillo, Texas

Thinking of you today Pete as I have many times this past year. I remember what a character you were and that sense of humor when we worked together in Texas. Will never forget that phone greeting, 'Hey Kenneth, Pete Moutos here!'. Always appreciated your outgoing manner, positive thinking and thoroughness when working on projects. Like all those that knew you, you are missed.

Peter, whether one would 'look under the veil, peel back the onion, or pull back the curtain' (some of your favortite phrases) the revelation would be the same. You are a thorough, dedicated, caring person focused on improving what is in your charge. For the past year I continue to think of you and the projects I assisted you with. Thanks for shepherding me through the investigative consulting process in Amarillo; that helped me grow as a consultant. Thanks for the limo you arranged during one of my visits to New York; that made me feel important. Thanks for being so good-natured when Mark B. and I counted all your Bartlett quotes during your RMIC presentation in Orlando; that reminded me of our friendship. Thanks for touching the lives of all you met in a very positive, caring way.

My first rememberance of Peter was him walking over my Desk, saw the TEXAS COFFE MUG On my table and made UT(University of Texas) sign with his right hand smiling and wanted to know if I went to UT also. I worked at Marsh and his Office was right behind my cubicle. In the 6 months I worked there, we had few quick conversations. Peter was Classy and very hardworking man. I would see him in office before me every morning and hardly saw him leaving in the evening. And when he said, 'Good morning, how're you doing'. He really meant it and eager to get an answer back. Peter, though I did not know you much but you would be heartly missed.
