Christy Addamo

Since Christy Addamo was lost in the attack on the World Trade Center, her parents and sister have been overwhelmed by phone calls, letters and bouquets of flowers at the family home in New Hyde Park.

'I'm getting flowers from people and I don't even know who they are,' said her father, Greg Addamo. 'A lot of people are missing her right now.'

Christy, 28, was on the 98th floor of Tower One when the first plane hit it. A senior accountant at Marsh & McLennan, her parents describe her as a talented and thoughtful person at an exciting time in her life.

'She was doing very well in her position,' her father said. 'She felt she was being groomed to take over her boss' job.'

She was optimistic about a new relationship she had started about three months before the attack, he said.

And she was enjoying living at home in New Hyde Park, where she and her older sister, Dawn, shared a portion of their parents' house.

'Her comment was, 'Why am I going to pay rent when I have it great here?'' recalled her father with amusement. ''I'm not stupid.''

Christy was very much her father's daughter, he admitted.

'She was my little girl,' he said quietly.

Christy's mother, Rita Addamo, put it another way. 'She was the center of his universe,' she said. 'They both liked the Yankees. They would watch TV together, and go to games. They were on the same plain, that's for sure.'

Since the attack, Rita said she's been struck by the extent of people's affection for her daughter. One friend had saved all the birthday cards Christy sent her over the years, with personal verses and notes inscribed in Christy's hand inside.

Rita said she was familiar with these characteristic acts of tenderness on the part of her daughter.

But, she said, 'I didn't know her friends cherished it as much as they did.

'She's going to be sorely missed,' her mother said. 'That's for sure.'

A memorial service is planned for Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in New Hyde Park.(c) 2001 Newsday, Inc. Reprinted with permission. www.newsday.com

I'm so sorry for your loss. I will never forget. I've never been to New York & I never even knew about the Twin Towers until 9-11. I am overwhelmed with those who passed away & still so sad. Each year, I research people who have passed & learn about folks I never knew. Christy sounded like a real go getter. She was doing very well & sounds like on top of her game. I'm so sorry she was taken away. I hope this doesn't cause any pain. I will never forget & now, I will never forget Christy either. I'm not a friend that knew her, but I'm a friend in spirit

Every year I read through this memorial to read the tributes for my former colleagues who we lost. This year marks 20 years since that day but it feels like yesterday. Thinking of the entire Addamo family today and every day. May we live to never see another day like that one ever again. Prayers for Christy.

I am on a journey to honor all who lost their lives on 9/11. I pay tribute with a one mile walk or run for each name on the 9/11 Memorial. I honored Christy this week as I walked in the park with a friend. I shared Christy’s story as we walked together and thought of her friends and family who, I am certain, miss her light every day. I share your sorrow.

I didn't know Christy. I had just joined MMC in Melbourne Australia a couple of weeks before the attacks. I clicked on her memorial page without thinking, while visiting the memorial site but I relaise I do have something in common with Christy, I am the same age as Christy. Her parents' comments are so incredibly touching. I was really moved by them. Its not natural for children to die before their parents, I hope her parents and family are doing OK.

Christy was such a warm, kind and funny person. She had a smile that would light up the room. I worked with Christy at Seabury & Smith in New Hyde Park. I would always walk over to the Accounting Dept to chat with her. We had great conversations. I would want to chat for a bit and she would say "ok I have to get back to working" She was a dedicated worker. Christy may you rest in peace.

I joined Marsh & McLennan a number of years after the tragedy of September 11, 2001, and so did not know any of those lost, but many of my current colleagues did and they often speak of how much they miss their lost friends. I visit the MMCo Memorial Site to remind myself of how much we lost that day. This post is just to let Christy's family and friends know that she, along with all of the others lost that day, will never be forgotten.

I first met Christy when she interviewed for an accounting position that my department had open at Seabury & Smith, and I was so impressed with her that I hired. Thye say first impressions are everything - we between her great personality and smile she past the first impression test. In either 1994 or 1996 (can not recall the exact date) we were advised that my accounting group be moving to the WTC - at this point I needed to identify which group members and I clearly remember her advising me that she loves working for the group, but she would rather stay local. Knowing that she was such a dedicated employeeit was hard to accept her decision. Years later I ran into her on a subway platform and there was that great personality and smile again. She was not only a great employee, but also a great person. I recall her always talking about her family, and when she did, she would have a sparkle in her eye. She is definitely missed

Dear Addamo Family, I met Christy when I moved to Queens Village, back in 1979. She was in my second grade class & every class after that throughout the school years into high school. Her & her sister Dawn went to my little sisters birthday party one year. Christy and I shared alot of memories & good times throughout elementary, junior high school & high school. She was a good kindhearted person that left a lasting impression in my heart. I will never forget you my dear old friend. I miss you & think about you all the time. R.I.P.

My mom worked with Christy for two years at Marsh & McLennan, before leaving to take a new job in San Francisco. Just three weeks after my mom left, Christy died. She was so focused, so driven. She knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go get it. She was a huge influence on my mom - she encouraged her to go for the new job, and an inspiration to us all. Gone but never forgotten. RIP Christy <3

Hi- About 2 years ago I was watching the memorial on T.V. and heard her name as I munched on my cheerios... I saw Christy's picture and went numb. I can't believe she was victim of 9/11. I still remember driving to the prom with her. Mrs. Addamo, I had come in to your workplace a few times and never realized... I didn't know so never said anything so I want to reach out now and send my condolences. Christy, Jen and I spent a good part of our junior and senior years in high school together and I'll never forget the 'girl band' we had never started. I think of her with good memories and know you do the same. love, Age

Greg, Rita and Dawn; My heart goes out to you on this day. Five years ago I did not know what its was like to lose a love one. Five years later I know what that its like. Dad was murder on March 11, 2005 and to this date we are not sure who did it. Christy was a very special kid. I can remember when Rita brought her home from the hospital. What a cute kid. I remember how she used to run up and down that sidewalk looking for dad or playing with her sister or my sister Patti. Those were grand days. To you three my condolocenses and that the good Lord bless you.

I was surfing the Net looking for information about my grandgrandfather, an italian immigrate in the US. I've put my surname, Addamo, in the Google blank and I've discovered Christy. I've prayed and still do it, for 9/11's victims. I know it could sound stupid, I'm praying for every victim, but when I read her name...I cryed. 4 years has passed, but if I feel as if IT happened yesterday...I can't imagine what you feel. I'm writing just to tell you MI DISPIACE DAVVERO TANTO (I'm really sorry)! May God give you Peace and May Christy make your pain Lighter. Vi sono vicina col cuore.

I went to grade school with your daughter. I am so sorry for your loss. When I heard the names being read on the anniversary and I heard your daughter's, I kept telling myself that it couldn't be her. You might not believe this, but I still have a birthday gift your daughter gave me in the second grade (I think). Its a statue of a little puppy sitting in a basket..it will be with me always. I didn't know Christy, nor any of the employees of MMC who were lost on 9/11. But, as a former MMC employee from years ago, I wanted to express my condolences. It is both a sad time and a proud time for all of us, knowing that so many wonderful people are no longer with us, but that together, we as a country, can endure such a tragedy.
